Advertising in Telegram group chats: how it works

The SendWay team · Updated

Advertising in Telegram group chats means posting your message right into the chats where people actually talk: communities about work, hobbies, cities and business. Telegram's official ad platform, Telegram Ads, does not reach them, so chats are reached in other ways. Here is what those ways are, what they cost and how to keep your accounts alive.

Group chats vs. channels

Telegram has two kinds of communities. In a channel only the author posts and subscribers read. In a group chat every member writes: people ask questions, give advice, look for freelancers and buy from each other.

An example Telegram group chat: members look for freelancers, and among the messages is an ad post offering to build a website
This is how a post looks in a group chat: inside a live conversation on the topic. An example, not a real chat.

For advertising these are different places. In a channel your post is one of the author's posts, usually paid to the channel owner. In a chat your post lands in a live conversation of people discussing the topic right now: looking for a contractor, a job or a product. That is why chats work well for offers people act on at once: services, courses, jobs, digital goods and bots.

Why Telegram Ads does not cover chats

Telegram Ads is Telegram's official ad platform (ads.telegram.org). An ad is a short text of up to 160 characters with a button, and it is shown in channels. It is not shown in group chats, private chats or the chat list.

So if your audience talks in group chats, Telegram Ads will not reach it. What remains is posting in the chats themselves, in one of the ways below.

Three ways to post in chats

WayHow it worksProsCons
Deal with the adminYou message the chat's admin and pay for a pinned post or a post from themOfficial, the post staysSlow: a negotiation per chat, every admin has their own price
By hand from your accountsYou join chats and post yourselfFree, full controlA few chats a day; an account soon gets a spam block
Software or a servicePosts go out from many accounts to a list of chatsHundreds or thousands of chats, automaticallyNeeds accounts, proxies and settings, or the accounts get blocked

Desktop programs for posting to chats, such as TG Giant, Telegram Prime and Telegram Expert, run on your computer. You buy and tune the accounts, proxies, delays and limits yourself, and the computer has to stay on while a campaign runs.

Services like SendWay work in the browser: accounts are bought inside, each has its own proxy, pace and limits are already set, and posting runs on the service's servers.

What you pay for

Whatever the way, except a deal with an admin, the price is made of the same parts:

  • Telegram accounts. One account can safely send only a few messages, so volume takes several accounts, and some of them get spam-blocked over time.
  • Proxies. Each account needs its own address; many accounts on one address is the quickest way to get them all blocked.
  • The tool. A program's license or subscription, or a service's plan.
  • Time. Preparing accounts, choosing chats, dealing with blocks.

SendWay has three parts: a plan (from $7.99 for 3 days, $19.99 and $49.99 for 30 days), accounts at a price you see before buying, and $0.01 per delivered message. Undelivered messages are not charged, proxies are included. Your first plan payment comes with 1 ready account and $0.50 on your balance.

Risks and how to lower them

The main risk is a spam block: Telegram restricts an account that writes too much and too repetitively. The second is moderator bots in chats (Rose, Shieldy, GroupHelp and others): they ask for a captcha, an "I'm not a bot" click or a channel subscription and delete the message otherwise. The third is the chat's own rules: many chats forbid ads.

What helps:

  • Post only where the chat's rules allow ads, and respect the bans. It is fair to the members and saves accounts: breaking a chat's rules gets you banned fastest.
  • A human pace. In SendWay an account sends at most three messages per sending window and joins at most two chats per window, with a 1–3 minute pause between joins.
  • Varied text. The same message in dozens of chats looks like spam. The campaign's "Randomize" button makes variants of your text.
  • No repeats. Before sending, SendWay reads the chat's recent messages: if your post is already among the last three, the chat is skipped and nothing is charged.
  • Watch the accounts. SendWay checks accounts with @SpamBot regularly and files appeals when a block can be lifted.

How to choose chats

Pick chats where people look for what you offer: jobs in job and freelance chats, courses in topic communities, goods in marketplaces and city chats. Check that a chat is alive: are there fresh messages, do people answer each other?

The SendWay catalog has more than 94,000 chats, 21,000+ of them sorted into 37 categories and subcategories: marketplaces and promo, games, earning and jobs, business, crypto and more. Search by keyword, take a whole collection or add your own list. If your niche or language is not there, chats are picked for you on request.

How to write a post for a chat

In a chat your post is read between people's questions and answers. It has a couple of seconds to catch the eye, so a simple pattern works:

  • The benefit in the first line. Not "We are happy to present…" but what the reader gets: "A landing page in 3 days, free estimate".
  • Keep it short. 2–4 lines: what you offer, for whom, why now. Long texts get scrolled past.
  • One action. One link or one bot to message. Several links scatter attention and annoy moderators more often.
  • The chat's language. Write the way members talk: about orders and deadlines in a freelancers' chat, about time and family in a parents' chat.
  • Text variants. Prepare a few wordings or press "Randomize": the same text in dozens of chats leads to a spam block faster.

An example post for a freelancers' chat:

Need a landing page or a Telegram bot? We build them start to finish in 3–5 days, with a free estimate. Message @your_bot and we'll send examples of our work.

Common mistakes

  • Posting where ads are forbidden. The post gets deleted and the account banned from the chat. Read the pinned rules.
  • Sending a lot from one account. Dozens of messages an hour from one number is a straight road to a spam block. Use several accounts and a calm pace.
  • One proxy for many accounts. Telegram links accounts behind one address and blocks them together.
  • Repeating a post in the same chat. If your message is already among the latest, a repeat annoys members and moderators.
  • Not tracking results. Without a link to every post and a click count you cannot tell which chats bring clients and which only cost money.

Launching a campaign in 5–10 minutes

  1. Sign up and pick a plan. Create an account and pay for a plan with crypto.
  2. Text. Paste your post and press "Randomize" so different chats get different variants.
  3. Chats. Take a collection from the catalog, search chats by keyword or add your own.
  4. Launch. Press "Launch". Links to every post, account statuses and charges show in the campaign row.

What clients get

Real SendWay campaigns, dashboard data over 1–3 days of each:

  • iGaming: 1,330 delivered messages → 89 people came to the bot → 12 payments.
  • A face self-massage course: 1,050 messages → 120 came to the bot → 20 purchases.
  • Digital goods: 420 messages → 105 came to the bot → 3 buyers.
  • B2B marketing: 100 messages → 7 leads; the client paused the ads to keep up with the requests.

Results depend on the offer, the niche and the text: these are not promises, just what these clients got.

FAQ

Is it legal to advertise in Telegram chats?

Posting in chats whose rules allow ads is common practice. The ad itself must follow the laws of your country: some countries require ad labeling or restrict certain topics.

How many accounts do I need to start?

You can start with one: a gift account comes with your first plan payment. To grow volume, buy more accounts: each sends up to three messages per window.

Do I need my own proxies?

No. In SendWay every account has its own proxy, checked on every connection to Telegram.

Can I post in chats in other languages?

Yes. Describe the topic and the language and chats are picked for you on request. If none are found, the payment for the search goes back to your balance.

What happens if an account gets a spam block?

It is not lost: such accounts sit in a separate tab, SendWay checks them with @SpamBot and files appeals when a block can be lifted.

Try it on your own offer

The chat catalog, accounts and proxies are already inside. Launching takes 5–10 minutes, and you pay only for delivered messages.
